Reflection on the "Time for Choosing" Speech (AKA -- "The Speech")

.

American Rhetoric lists this speech in it's "Top 100 Speeches".  This speech is entitled "A Time for Choosing" (aka "The Speech").  It originally aired October 27, 1964--nearly 46 years ago from Los Angeles, California. It's message is still relevant and the delivery powerful--hence why it is regarded so highly to this day.  If you are unfamiliar with Ronald Reagn, acquaint yourself with this speech by watching it at the the Reagan Foundation here.  This speech has often been called the one bright spot of Harry Goldwater's campaign--he lost miserably.  But this speech launched Reagan to the White House.

Recently, Peter Robinson, Mark Steyn and Rob Long convene on Robinson's program "Uncommon Knowledge" out of Stanford University to discuss the speech in retrospective which Powerlineblog links to here.  Powerlineblog writes about "The Speech:  "...the speech is [was] extraordinarily hard hitting.  Could a conservative politician with presidential aspirations give this speech today?  I wonder."  To which I reply--"I HOPE SO!"
